Obituary for Edward J. "Eddie" Zimnoch Sr.

Edward “Eddie” J. Zimnoch, Sr. 65, of East Windsor, CT and Ormond-by-the-Sea, FL was the loving husband of Janice (Sorensen) Zimnoch. Eddie passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital. Eddie was born April 20, 1949, in Hartford, CT the son of the late Anthony J. and Alice (Opalacz) Zimnoch. Eddie proudly served with the United States Marine Corps Reserves and was honorably discharged. Eddie was employed with the Town of West Hartford Public Schools Maintenance Department and retired in 2009 after 30 years. Eddie was the owner and operator of Eddies Plumbing and Heating in East Windsor. For over 25 years, Ed served as a chapter president of AFSCME Local 1303-061 representing the West Hartford Public School skilled trades workers. He also served as the president of AFSCME Local 1303 representing over 400 chapters of municipal workers state wide. Ed proudly served Connecticut’s state and municipal workers for 8 years as a vice president to the AFSCME Council 4 Executive Board and a vice president to the Hartford Labor Council for 2 years. He participated in numerous labor functions both locally and nationwide. Ed was never one to back down from standing up for what was right. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in East Windsor and served on the Board of Trustees. Eddie was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Flagler Fishing Club in Flagler, FL. He was a member of the Hartford Elks B.P.O. E Lodge #19 and served on the Board of Directors for the East Windsor Cemetery Association. Eddie was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. In addition to his wife of 40 years he is also survived by his two children, Elizabeth Klesczewski and her husband, Gary of Cromwell, CT and Edward J. Zimnoch, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Broad Brook, CT. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert Zimnoch of East Hartford and Stanley Zimnoch and his wife, Bonnie of Barkhamsted, CT; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Eddie was predeceased by four siblings, Irene Crane, Richard Zimnoch, Anthony Zimnoch, Jr., and Alexander Zimnoch, Sr. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Monday, December 15, 2014, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service for Eddie will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 10 am at the First Congregational Church, 124 Scantic Road, East Windsor, CT 06088. (Please meet at the church) Burial will follow in Scantic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 124 Scantic Rd., East Windsor, CT 06088.
