Obituary for Raymond John "R.J," Derouin

Raymond John "R.J," Derouin
Raymond (R.J.) John Derouin, 55, passed away suddenly on Sunday April 17, 2016. He was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Kellogg Derouin. He was born July 30, 1960 in Northampton, Massachusetts. He was the son of Rose and Sanford Boardman. R.J. graduated from Northampton High School in 1978 before attending Springfield Technical Community College where he obtained his degree in mechanical engineering. He worked at Kamatics Corporation for 30 years in the aerospace industry as a mechanical engineer. He was a devoted fan of the Red Sox and Boston Bruins and bled red and white or black and gold depending on the season. He was able to attend his first Winter Classic this year which fulfilled a life-long dream. He was an avid fisherman and eagerly anticipated fishing excursions with his buddies. He had a strong connection to the local community through the Enfield Parks and Recreation Baseball League where he spent many hours and was a friend to all. R.J. grew up camping and carried on that tradition with his wife and boys. Their memories of Burlingame Campground will always be cherished. As a young adult he had a passion for motocross and ice hockey where he was a devoted athlete. R.J. had a knack for connecting with people and could make friends in any situation. He also had a strong love for music, which he passed on to his children. As a husband and a father R.J. enjoyed spending time with his family, grilling for them and tending to his beloved yard. R.J. is survived by his wife of 30 years, Liz, three children, Colin and his wife Annie, Tyler and Kyle. In addition to his family he leaves his father, Sanford Boardman and mother-in-law Norma F. Kellogg, his sister Michelle Derouin, her son Daniel, Donna Derouin and her children, Kayley and Steven and step-brothers Sanford Boardman Jr. and Chandler Boardman. He also leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathryn and Nicholas Flynn, Cynthia Kellogg and Donna Marie Robinson, Amy and Leo Chausse and nephew and nieces, Regan, Caitlin, Justin, and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his mother, Rose Boardman and father-in-law, Roger Kellogg. His family will receive friends on Saturday, April 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. The funeral service in celebration of RJ's life will be held at the Enfield Congregational Church, 1295 Enfield Street, Enfield on Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. Burial will be held privately. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Enfield Fire and Police Departments, the EMTs and doctors and nurses at Baystate Medical Center for the care and compassion they gave to us at our time of need. Raymond’s final act was to give the gift of life through tissue donation. It would be an honor to the family if you would consider registering to be an organ and tissue donor, or volunteering for your local organ and tissue procurement organization.
