Shirley (St. Aubin) Carpenter, 78, of Enfield, CT loving wife of Hugh Carpenter entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, July 29, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital with her family by her side. Shirley was born December 14, 1937, in Claremont, NH the daughter of the late Wilfred and Velma (Dubuque) St. Aubin. Shirley was born and raised in Claremont, New Hampshire and in 1960 she moved to Enfield where she and Hugh raised their family. Shirley received her Bachelor's in Nursing from the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing and then received her Bachelor's in Education from the Fitchburg State Teachers College. Shirley retired in 2001 after 30 years from Home and Community Health Services where she was employed as a Registered Nurse. She served as a board member on the Commission on Aging, also served as board member on the Profession Advisory Committee for Head Start and was a board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of CT. Shirley enjoyed reading, doing cross word puzzles, antiques and playing bingo. In addition to her husband, Hugh, she is also survived by her two daughters, Lisa Degner and her husband, Daniel, of Oakland Township, MI and Lynn Carpenter of Fort Myers, FL; two brothers, Michael St. Aubin and his wife, Linda of Fitchburg, MA and Wayne St. Aubin and his wife, Joyce of Indian Land, SC; her two grandchildren, Ethan and Autumn Degner and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, August 4, 2016, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral service for Shirley will be celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2016, at 10 am, with a visitation hour one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Enfield Commission of Aging Senior Repair Program, 100 High St., Enfield, CT 06082.
