Louis J. "Lou"  LaTorra
Louis J. “Lou” LaTorra, 84, of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at home. He was born on June 14, 1932, in Hartford, CT, a son of the late Joseph and Angelina (Dione) LaTorra. Lou was raised in Hartford and graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1950. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Lou moved to Windsor Locks in 1960 where he raised his family. He was a Union Plumber and member of Local 777. Lou was instrumental in coaching numerous kids in Windsor Locks Sports. He coached football for the Windsor Locks Jets Midget Football and was 1971 State Champions and baseball for the Windsor Locks Little League 1973 State Champions. He also coached basketball for 6th grade all-stars and Park and Recreation Soccer. Lou was a member of the Windsor Locks Hall of Fame Class of 2012. He was sportsman of the year in 1976. He was a member of the VFW Post 6123 and Windsor Locks Park Commission. Lou was an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing in fast pitch softball leagues, watching the UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball teams, and he also loved Army football and attending the Army and Navy football games. He played the drums with his band the Spinning Wheels and while in Korea. His biggest joy was being with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. Lou is survived by three sons, William LaTorra and his wife Caren of Windsor Locks, James LaTorra and his wife Rena of Windsor Locks and David LaTorra and his wife Gail of Enfield; eight grandchildren, Timothy LaTorra and his wife Liz, Scott LaTorra and his wife Chrissy, Eric LaTorra, Katelyn LaTorra and her fiancée Tim, Christopher LaTorra, Brian McNeil and his wife Anna, Kelly Moylan and her husband James, and Kyle LaTorra; six grandchildren, Anthony, Taylor, Lilly, Vincent, Natalia, and Elena; his girlfriend Alice Whitman, a brother Joseph LaTorra of Glastonbury; a cousin Grace Leito of South Windsor, two nephews, a special friends Jack and Emily DeRosa, and his dog Scooter. Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours on Monday, August 1, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. A funeral procession will gather on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 52 South Elm Street, Windsor Locks, CT. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
