Obituary for Ethel Debonis

Print
Ethel J Debonis of Enfield gracefully took her last breath the evening of Friday, July 6, 2018 after a grueling battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her daughters and husband held her hand from the moment of diagnosis up until her last breath. She was born to Mabel (Strout) and Mark Peabody on March 3, 1936 in Berlin, NH. She spent her childhood in the quaint town of Berlin, New Hampshire. She married Francis A. Debonis on October 8, 1955, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Ethel was a gentle soul. In her life she was the little angel secretly doing acts of kindness to make everyone's life a little happier and will continue to watch over us in her death. She had a radiant smile and a sassy eye-roll. She was incredibly classy woman who ironed her sheets and sifted her flour. She was the best cook but was always too modest to admit it. She never wanted anyone to feel bad and was the person at the party to take pieces of the ugly cakes that no one wanted to eat so their baker would not feel bad.

Ethel is survived by her husband Francis Debonis, her sister Shirley Murphy, her brother Barry, and daughters Karen Greene, Pamela Evans, and Cindy DelGrosso. She also leaves behind four grandchildren Matthew DelGrosso, Kaitlin Greene, Shannon Greene, and Kirsten Greene, as well as a loving member of the family, Deja-Drew Evans. She was predeceased by her loving son in-law Douglas DelGrosso in October of this year.

The family gives their thanks and full appreciation to Sareva Hofler who was an angel by her side since January. We also give our thanks to Kelly Tottle, Carmen Cotillo, Cesar Salazar, Eliuth Cardenas, and Ellen Sattal.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9th at her home in Enfield. No flowers please. Donations can be made to their church: Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capital Ave Hartford, CT 06106. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels has care of the arrangements.
