Obituary for Dolores Anne Grant (Simpson)

Dolores Anne Grant (Simpson)
Dolores Anne (Simpson) Grant, 80 of Somers, beloved wife of Olin T. Grant, passed away on October 27, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Born in North Brewer, Maine on August 6, 1936, daughter of the late Edgar and Estella (Mann) Simpson. Although diminutive in stature, she was a giant in the mother department. She was so easy to love and gave freely of her love to all her family and friends. Also quick to laugh and see the funny side in a situation, and never afraid to point the laughter inwards and laugh at herself. She was an independent thinker who spoke passionately about issues that mattered to her and was a master at creating a meal out of nothing. She worked as a manager for 20 years at Town and Country Laundromat in Enfield, CT and was the smiling face at Irish Bend Orchard in Somers, CT. She will be forever missed but her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her best friend of 25 years Anthony J. Romano. In addition to her husband, Olin she leaves four children, Charles Grant of Somers, Frank Grant and his wife Brenda of Batesburg, SC, Atty. Olin H. Grant of Somers, Tracie Grant-Pinney and her husband, Sampson of Somers, and a daughter-in-law, Deanne Grant of Denver, NC; two sisters, Joan Holzwarth and her husband, Daniel of Glenburn, Maine, and Linda Simpson of Bangor, Maine; two brothers, Bud Simpson and his wife, Margo, of Logan, Ohio and Trevor Simpson and his wife, Barbara of Deblois, Maine; ten grandchildren, Heather Studley, Jennifer Sandsted, Alyson Grant, Brittany Bair, Taylor Grant, Kate Simpson Pinney, Sydney Pinney, Grant Pinney, and Billy and Erin Doyer; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin, Caroline, Jada, Ryan, Madison, Bella and Jonah; a brother -in -law, Frederick Grant and his wife Shirley of Columbia, S.C; a special aunt Junie Getchell of Bridgewater, MA; many beloved nieces and nephews, and a good friend Louis Cermola. As her children we know everything we are or will be, we owe to our beloved mother. Relatives and friends may join her family for calling hours on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers, CT. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Somersville Congregational Church at 10:00 a.m. (please meet at church). Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery. Memorial donations in Dolores's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. For information or to leave online expressions of sympathy please visit, www.somersfuneralhome.com.
