Obituary for Helen P. Garbolski (Parker)

Helen (Parker) Garbolski, 93, of Windsor Locks, wife of the late Chester (Chet) Garbolski, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 21, 2016, at St. Joseph Residence in Enfield​. Helen was born on March 14, 1923 in Miller, South Dakota​,​ ​to William and Anna (Horan) Parker.​ Helen was typical of her generation, enduring the Dustbowl, the Great Depression and even working as a welder in a Long Beach shipyard during WWII. Later she began and made a successful 40-year long career as an artist. Her paintings encompassed all media, and for many years she was a member of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association and the Springfield Artists Assocation. She and Chet enjoyed many years traveling to art shows and festivals. She exhibited in numerous venues and won many awards, the most prestigious of which was a first place category in the Mystic Art Festival.​ ​
Helen was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Church in Windsor Locks and helped organize the Tuesday night Rosary service​.​ ​She is survived by her five children and their families,​ ​Christina Foss of Windsor Locks, Eva Brewer of Enfield,​ Judith Jackson of Portland, Oregon​, ​Michael Garbolski ​and his wife Nataliia ​of Hamden​,​ and​ Alan Garbolski of Windsor Locks​. ​ Helen is also survived by nine grandchildren​,​ five great grandchildren​ and many, many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews​. Helen was predeceased by her​​ seven brothers and four sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Residence; 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield, C​T. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Windsor Locks. In lieu flowers memorial donations may be made to the Prolife Across America, P.O. Box 18669, Minneapolis, MN 55418.
