The daughter of the late Stephen J. and Hannah May (Reed) Hlobik, Mary Jane was born in Stafford Springs on February 1, 1938. Mary Jane grew up in Coventry and Willington, CT before moving to several homes in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, and settling down in Somers, CT. She has lived in Enfield for the past 22 years, where she lived with her mother, Hannah, until her passing in November 2013. Mary Jane was always happiest being with her family and was a constant presence in their lives. She cherished her family above all else and was known for her tremendous generosity that she regularly displayed to her daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren. She was “DeeDee” to her grandchildren and was always concerned about her family’s well-being and safety. She enjoyed spending countless hours on the phone chatting with family and friends, listening to Polish and country music, keeping up with current events, and satisfying her perpetual sweet tooth. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Mary Jean Byer, son-in-law Jeffrey, and granddaughters Nicole and Courtney of Bedford, NH; and her daughter Kristine Mack, son-in-law Jim, and grandchildren Michael, Hannah, and Stephen of West Hartford, CT. She is also survived by her aunt Ramona Prouty of Perris, CA; her brother Lawrence Hlobik and his wife Paula of Bucyrus, KS; her sister-in-law Theresa Hlobik of Vernon, CT; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Mary Jane was predeceased by her brother Roger Hlobik. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers, CT.
