Obituary

Edward (Eddie) James Jacobs, longtime resident of Enfield for the past 40 plus years, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Hughes Health & Rehabilitation, West Hartford. Eddie was born June 28, 1946 in New Bedford, MA and was the son of the late Mr. Edward A. Jacobs and Mary C. (Ward) Jacobs. Eddie grew up in New Bedford, MA and graduated from Bishop Stang High School class of '64 before receiving an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War for which he was awarded a Purple Heart.
Eddie had worked as a Head Custodian for the Enfield Public Schools and retired after 23 years. The last school he worked at and had many fond memories of was Prudence Crandall Elementary.
Eddie had many interests he was passionate about: NY Yankees, NY Giants, and Boston Bruins. Another chapter in his life that gave him many years of happiness was playing softball on the "Over 30 League".
He was most passionate about his love for music. Many concert events over the years did he attend. Not only did he have profound knowledge of music, he was a talented DJ formerly known as "EJ the DJ" and took great pleasure in making thoughtful CDs for family and friends.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife Lucille (Lucy), his son, Kevin Jacobs, step-son, Pasquale John D’Amato (PJ), step-daughter, Nicole Ginsburg and her husband Phil, grandsons whom he adored, Evan Joseph and Ethan James all of Enfield.
Eddie's essential goodness, humility, sense of humor and compassion will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
A very special note of thanks to the staff of Hughes Health & Rehab, North Wing, and Hospice Masonicare for their above and beyond commitment to caring.
A Funeral Service with military honors will be held on Friday, Jan 11, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Funeral Home, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. My condolences go out to his family. Ed was so funny at my days at Prudence Crandall. He always made us kids laugh and just made the day better with the high fives through the hall ways or just a hi. He always knew our names and just was a great man. I'm so sorry for your loss and my prayers with you and your family.

Mr. Ed was the custodian at my elementary school. I hope he knew how much we loved him. When my Crandall alumni get together and reminisce about our time there, we always mention how much we adored Mr. Ed. We always had competitions on who would get the most high-fives from him in the hallway. He made it his mission to remember all our names and joke with us in his free time. He would even let us ride on his cart for fun; I can't imagine we were easy to push! Not once did we ever see him angry or complain about his job. He was so patient and always kind. Now that I am in my late twenties, I am sad that I never had the opportunity to tell him in person how much his kindness impacted all of his work kids. I am sending my thoughts, hugs and prayers to his family and friends.

Dear Lucy and Family, Eddie was truly one of a kind. There are so many memories, from "Roomie" years on Booth Road and his weekly pound of LOL cheese, to his many (MANY) DJ gigs, good times at softball but always with Eddie at Church in his uniform before the game. We will never forget all the dry runs for trips, whether a concert or dinner somewhere new, he always made the trip a day or two before o he would know where he was going. Truly you didn't know whether to laugh or scream. He was always there for this friends.
